Self Care Sunday: How to Do It Right

Self care Sunday is a day dedicated to taking care of yourself and recharging for the week ahead. Discover ideas and tips for creating your own self-care Sunday routine and prioritizing your well-being.

How to Plan Self Care Sunday

The basic idea behind self-care Sunday is to dedicate a specific day of the week for self-care activities. Even though you should be taking care of yourself all week (or at least covering the basics), it can be a good idea to have one day to the harder tasks that or to recover from a hard busy week.

Also, it is important to note that to practice self-care Sunday you don’t need to use Sunday exclusively for self-care activities. You can just set aside some time during this day. For example, you can make an evening of self care at home, and spend the rest of the day doing other activities and tasks. Even just sparing 30 minutes one day can make a big difference in the long term.

Step 1 – Choose one day of the week

Choose one day of the week for self-care Sunday. Even though most people choose Sunday because it is the day that they are mostly free, you can choose whatever day you want and whatever day better fits your schedule.

Step 2 – Write down what needs to get done

Write down everything that you need to do. You can separate self-care tasks into the following categories:

  • Productive (activities that need to be done)
  • Taking care of your body (activities that need to be done)
  • Enjoy (activities that you want to do)

Make sure you do both pleasant activities (such as practicing your hobby) and activities that need to be done (even if you don’t enjoy them very much) such as doing your laundry. Make sure that self-care Sunday is something you can look forward to.

You can even add tasks that are going to make the rest of your week easier, such as:

  • Get your clothes ready for Monday
  • Meal prep so you can eat healthy during the week

Also, if possible, try to keep some activities in the free/no cost category. This way, you can avoid developing a link between self-care and spending money.

Step 3 – Create an action plan

Make sure to prioritize activities. Are there activities that are more important to you than the others?

Make sure you have the supplies and tools you need for all your tasks. Create a check-list for shopping.

For harder tasks, such as clean your room, make sure to write down all the steps you need to do. For example, to clean your room, you can create many subtasks such as:

  • Declutter
  • Vacuum
  • Wipe down surfaces
  • Clean glass and mirrors
  • Organize items
  • Empty the trash
  • Etc
